Welcome to

Horseshoe Canyon Rescue Ranch

a safe haven for all animals

Horseshoe Canyon Rescue Ranch, a non-profit 501(c)(3), organization committed to the rescue rehabilitation, and rehoming of neglected, abandoned, abused or surrendered animals including horses, donkeys, dogs and cats. Founded by Mike and Tina Kleckner, HCRR is located in Youngsville, NM ( just a short drive from Abiquiu, home to Ghost Ranch and the artist Georgia O'Keeffe). Horseshoe Canyon Rescue Ranch is one of the only rescue ranches in northern New Mexico.

Sitting on 180 acres, it is a beautiful safe haven where horses have the opportunity to kick up their hoofs and be horses.  Animals that aren't adopted because of medical and abuse problems have a forever home at Horseshoe Canyon Rescue Ranch. Not every horse needs to be ridable, but every horse needs to be loved. We are a 100% anti-slaughter rescue that emphasizes rehabilitation, care and love of all animals.

We acquired Arrow, our very first horse in 2018. He was an off- track thoroughbred who ended up at a kill lot at the age of 3, rescued by a dear friend.  We had no idea how much love this horse had to give and how much we had to learn from him. HCRR all began with Arrow.

"The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart''.

Grateful for the opportunity to rescue - one heart at a time!

Meet the Passion

"Horses carry the wisdom of healing in their hearts and offer it to any human who possess the humility to listen"- Unknown

Mike Kleckner

As retired pilot from American Airlines, Mike has found a passion in a different horse power. Mike loves all creatures great and small.

When Mike is not working with the horses, he is shoveling manure, one of his favorite things to do. Mike also enjoys hiking with our dogs at HCRR.

Tina Kleckner-  "Me and My Arrow"

Tina has always had a love for horses, but it took her 60 years for her dream to come true, with their first rescue Arrow. There is a tremendous need to serve the unwanted horse and all animal population. Many say how lucky our rescues are at HCRR, truth be known it is us that is lucky to have this opportunity.

Alyson Cistola

Alyson serves as a director of HCRR. Horseshoe Canyon Ranch requires about 1400 bales of hay for their equine family. Bucking hay from the fields, transporting and stacking helps save costs. Alyson, Tina's Sister, often travels from Kansas to help with this labor intensive part of rescue and ranch life. Thanks Sis!

Thank you to the
Santa Fe Community Foundation.
